🔒 HatchHub Product Compliance Statement
At HatchHub, we take safety, transparency, and good old-fashioned honesty very seriously — even if we like to have a bit of fun along the way. Below is everything you need to know about the compliance status of our access hatches.
⚠️ Fire Rating
Unless explicitly stated otherwise on a specific product page:
- Our hatches are not fire-rated and have not been tested or certified to BS 476-22, EN 1634-1, or any other fire resistance standard.
- These products are not suitable for use in applications where certified fire protection is required under UK Building Regulations.
If you need a fire-rated access panel — we respect that. Our models might be tough, but they haven’t earned their stripes in the furnace just yet.
🧱 Building Regulations
Our hatches are general-purpose inspection and access panels designed for:
- Residential and commercial use
- Drywall, timber, brick, or solid surfaces (depending on model)
- Indoor or outdoor use as specified
They do not carry:
- Fire resistance certification
- Acoustic or soundproof ratings
- Airtight or smoke-seal certification
They do meet common-sense expectations of durability, finish, and ease of access.
Installation should be performed by a competent person in accordance with relevant parts of the Building Regulations (notably Part B for fire, Part E for acoustics, and Part L for thermal efficiency, if applicable to your build).
📦 Product Materials & Safety
- All hatches are made of steel or aluminium, depending on model specifications.
- Some models include gas struts or spring mechanisms — these should be installed and operated with care.
- Sharp edges may be present on internal flanges — we recommend using gloves during installation.
- Hatches should never be used as structural load-bearing components or supports.
🚫 Misuse Disclaimer
Use of HatchHub products in safety-critical environments (e.g. fire escape routes, smoke control systems, or sealed electrical risers) is not recommended unless separately tested and approved for that purpose. We cannot be held liable for misuse or installation in non-approved contexts.
📄 Certification & Testing
We’re working towards expanding our range to include fire-rated models in the future. When we do, you’ll know — we’ll shout it from the rooftops (or ceilings, or walls).
For now, if a product is certified, we will clearly state:
- The standard tested (e.g. BS 476-22)
- The rating achieved (e.g. 60 minutes)
- The test house and certificate number
If it’s not listed, it’s not certified.
Important Information About Our Floor Hatches
Our floor hatches are not certified to any official standards, such as BS EN 124:2015 or IP waterproof ratings. They haven’t been tested or approved by third-party labs for load, waterproofing, or compliance with construction regulations.
These hatches are designed for general use in places like private driveways, storage areas, or commercial spaces where certification isn’t required.
It’s up to the buyer, installer, or site manager to make sure the product is suitable for how and where it will be used. We do not recommend using these hatches in public roads or other regulated areas that require certified equipment.
